Xpeng EV come to Malaysia soon

XPeng, a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, is officially coming to Malaysia! Bermaz Auto Berhad has been appointed as the official distributor of XPeng in our market. This announcement comes shortly after XPeng’s co-founder and CEO, He Xiaopeng, revealed plans to roll out right-hand drive (RHD) models in the second half of this year. Malaysia is among the target markets for the upcoming RHD XPeng model, along with Hong Kong and Singapore.

XPeng was founded in 2014 by former senior executives of GAC Group, Henry Xia and He Tao, along with Xiaopeng, who gained recognition in the tech industry as the co-founder of mobile Internet company UCWeb. The company operates globally, with facilities in the U.S., Munich, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam. XPeng even unveiled its first mass-production model, the G3, at CES Las Vegas in 2018. Last year, Volkswagen invested USD 700 million in XPeng, acquiring a 4.99% stake in the company. The brand currently offers seven models, including the X9 7-seater MPV and the P7 sedan, positioned to challenge the Tesla Model 3.

The X9 MPV boasts a starting price of RMB 359,800 (~RM 234,449) and features up to two electric motors with a total power output of 370 kW. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h. XPeng claims the X9 can deliver up to 702 km of range (based on CLTC standards) and supports DC fast charging speeds of up to 330 kW.
