Renault Scenic E-Tech wins European Car of the Year 2024
The Renault Scenic E-Tech has emerged victorious as the European Car of the Year 2024! This prestigious award, considered the pinnacle of automotive accolades, was clinched by the electric crossover, which bears the name of Renault's iconic MPV. Let's delve into the details:
- Points and Votes: The Scenic E-Tech secured 329 points from the 58-member jury, along with 22 votes that positioned it as the best car among the seven finalists. It narrowly edged out the G60 BMW 5 Series, which itself underwent a transformation and is now available in fully-electric form. The BMW 5 Series garnered 308 points and earned 19 best votes.
- Other Finalists: The third-place finisher was the new Peugeot 3008, amassing 197 points and three best votes. The remaining finalists were all electric-heavy contenders:
- Kia EV9 with 190 points
- Volvo EX30 with 168 points
- BYD Seal with 131 points
- Toyota C-HR with 127 points
- Scenic E-Tech Features: The Scenic E-Tech, based on the same CMF-EV platform as the Nissan Ariya and the Megane E-Tech, offers two powertrain options:
1. A 170 PS (125 kW) model with a 60 kWh battery, providing a range of 420 km.
2. A range-topping version with 218 PS (160 kW) and an 87 kWh battery, boasting an impressive range of 620 km.
- Design and Practicality: While the new Scenic E-Tech differs significantly from its predecessor, it retains some Scenic DNA. Notably, it features:
- 38.7 liters of storage space in its interior
- An ingenious rear armrest with built-in tablet and cup holders
- A claimed segment-besting 545-liter boot
This victory for the Scenic E-Tech comes 27 years after its original forebear clinched the same award in 1997. Although the new version is a departure from the classic MPV, it continues to impress with its blend of electric performance and practicality.
