Nissan and Toyota race on solid-state batteries for EV
Both Nissan and Toyota are put their bid on the solid-state batteries for EV, the detail are below:
- Both Toyota and Nissan are optimistic that this new battery technology will address the challenges that are currently limiting the broader adoption of EVs.
- Solid-state batteries eliminate the liquid electrolytes in conventional EV batteries, allowing them to charge faster and be made lighter, thus increasing their energy storage capacity.
- Toyota has announced a "technological breakthrough" in the development of solid-state batteries and expects them to be ready for commercial use by 2027-28³. They anticipate that their first solid-state EVs will have more than 620 miles of range on a single charge, which is about double most current models.
- Nissan has also begun construction of a pilot production line and plans to incorporate the new batteries into vehicles in the 2028 fiscal year.
- However, experts have expressed concerns about the safety risks associated with solid-state batteries, as they need to be packed together tightly, putting them under significant pressure.
We are expecting the solid-state batteries will run on EV very soon.
