Apple Cancels “Apple Car” EV Development Project

Apple Cancels "Apple Car" Electric Vehicle Development Project

Apple has been working on its electric vehicle development project, codenamed "Project Titan," since 2014. Initially, there were plans to launch the Apple Car as early as 2028. However, according to a recent report by Bloomberg, Apple has officially canceled the ambitious project after a decade of investment. The project, which had already cost billions of dollars, was deemed unfeasible, and the reasons behind its cancellation have now been revealed.

The decision to cancel the Apple Car project came from senior leadership within the team responsible for "Project Titan." Apple's Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Williams, and Vice President of Technology, Kevin Lynch, addressed the approximately 2,000 members of the Apple Car team. In their communication, they explained that the project was winding down, and team members would transition to the AI (artificial intelligence) division. The focus will shift to more critical AI projects in the future.

Originally, the Apple Car was envisioned as a fully autonomous electric vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals. It was meant to feature luxurious interiors and voice-guided navigation. However, the project faced numerous technical challenges, including exterior design and autonomous driving technology. Despite several changes in team leadership and strategic shifts, the vision of a steering-wheel-free car with full autonomy proved unattainable due to current technological limitations.

Apple's board of directors had previously pushed for an early launch of the Apple Car by 2028. However, the company ultimately decided to abandon the project. Bloomberg suggests that shifting away from electric vehicles toward AI development is a strategic move, as AI offers higher long-term revenue potential compared to electric cars.
